Specialist rods with 30-40T carbon blanks suitable for managing large fish!
One of the challenges when targeting large barbel in fast-moving rivers is being able to present a bait effectively and then control the fish when hooked. Dealing with long casts and heavy water flow, using feeders and leads often up to 8 ounces, requires a specialized type of barbel rod.
Because bite registration is essential, the rod tip must be sensitive. How the tip reacts to the flow is crucial: the upper part of the rod must "nod" into the current to prevent the lead or feeder from being dislodged. This requires a specific action for a barbel rod and is very different from a carp blank.
When the river is high, there are snags and floating debris to contend with, so the rods are used with the tip high in the air to reduce drag on the line. We offer these rods in both 12' and 13' lengths to help get the tip as high as possible.
Tamer Heavy Waters (HW) rods are built on ultra-thin, lightweight blanks featuring a distinctive "X" carbon finish along the entire length. A complex manufacturing process integrates 40 and 30 ton Japanese carbons with less than 25% resin content. Alternate wrapping at 90 degrees and zero degrees for added strength, then further wrapping with 3mm biaxial carbon tape at 45 degrees produces extremely strong yet ultralight and thin blanks.
The guides are "S" with long range black frame.
Blank and rod weights may vary slightly from those listed. We use stainless steel collars and butt caps for added durability, which will add a little to the overall weight of the rod, but shouldn't negatively impact its balance on the handle.
