HELI SAFE TUBING KIT GRAVEL is a lead release kit with chod rig.
The Heli-Safe system is an amazing product and is already widely used by anglers around the world, but now, thanks to a clever improvement, many more people will be able to benefit from it.
Previously its use on some waters had been largely limited by bans on the use of leadcore, and leaders in general, and with any rig that didn't lend itself to being fished 'naked' on the mainline, it meant people had to look for an alternative option.
It was a real shame, because for anyone looking to fish a heli-rig, the Heli-Safe is truly the ultimate system. It has all the features of a traditional heli-rig—such as its anti-tangle properties; its ability to travel a long distance; and the ability to adjust the upper bead to determine how the hook link settles on the bottom—but its huge advantage over others is that when a fish is hooked, it allows the lead to drop, meaning there's no risk of it getting tangled or stuck in weed, which was always one of the major drawbacks and limiting factors of heli-rigs in the past.
Of course, there are also many situations where losing your edge isn't essential to landing the fish, and in these cases the Heli-Safe "collar" can be fitted to prevent this from happening.
So, you'll be happy to know that Korda has found a solution that means the Heli-Safe can now be used with tube rigs, and unless helipads are specifically prohibited by the rules, it should mean that this setup can now be used on virtually any water in the country.
Previously it was not possible to use the Heli-Safe in conjunction with the tube, and although it was possible to fish a ‘naked’ version, not everyone is happy with having the swivel hook connection directly to their main line without any sort of leader, plus it obviously doesn’t have the same anti-tangle qualities when fished this way.
The solution to the problem may seem very simple, but a lot of thought and testing went into getting the Heli-Safe Tubing kit just right, so that it works as expected in terms of cable drop.
Korda 's product development team solved the problem by introducing a small plug—called a "witch's hat"—that sits inside the Heli-Safe and holds the hose in place. When used in conjunction with a custom Heli-Safe "cap," which features a hard plastic "tail," this ensures the hose cannot come loose and the system functions as originally intended.
Damian Clarke, who came up with the idea, explained: “There is a ban on leadcore leaders and the safe zone where I catch fish on Savay Lake, and like many people I had tried various ways of using tubes with the Heli-Safe, but none of them worked properly.
The "witch's hat" is the smartest part of this product, as it holds the tube securely in place and can be used with our Dark Matter tungsten or Kamo plastic tube rig. I've been using it for over two years, and it's a brilliant setup. It solves all the problems you can get with a bare chopper rig, where you can still get tangles unless you're using a rigid hook, plus some anglers aren't happy with having the swivel running directly on the line.
"The tungsten bead moves very easily on the tube, so it's a safe setup, but you need to stop the lead as it hits the water, otherwise the bead can move unintentionally. There are situations where you don't need to release the lead, and you can set Heli-Safe for that, as you normally would in that situation.
