HI-'S' IVE - 50 mm ring are very high quality carp fishing rods, made of 40t Japanese carbon.

What sets the Hi-S apart from other rod brands/models is the unique process used to make the blanks. Free Spirit have developed a method using 40t Low Resin carbon that can create a rod that has great casting potential, incredible accuracy, and a fast tip response, but doesn't compromise the rod when sensitivity and maneuverability are needed. The Hi-S range is made from 1k carbon weave and has a resin content of around 3% (the glue that holds the carbon together) compared to other brands that can contain up to 30% or more. The net result is that the rods have a thinner wall thickness and a faster recovery, which has the net effect of creating a rod that can cast further than the rod should. We often get comments from people who can't believe that the 3.5lb will cast as far and how exactly it still plays fish like a 3lb TC rod.

Hi-S blanks feature what Free Spirit calls their "Perdurable" finish. In short, this means the blanks are scratch-resistant, thanks in part to the low 3% resin content. There's nothing to scratch. The finishes are derived from the carbon, and you'll have a hard time ruining them! The blank you touch is "bare" carbon; there's no paint/coating on the blank to damage. The net result is that your rods won't age; the blanks will look the same in 10 years as they did when you bought them.

The most unique feature of the Hi-S range is that due to the manufacturing process the blanks are 'identical', by this we mean that unlike other rods if you take say 10 Hi-S 3.5lb tc rods and mix up all the tips and butts they will all fit together perfectly, other brands don't necessarily do this as each tip is made to fit each butt so if you mix them up they won't come back in exactly the same position, this means no two blanks are exactly the same.

All rods are finished with 40 or 50mm S-Lite guides, a Hi-S clone reel seat with a blue isotope and a choice of handle options.

Now let's explain the Free Spirits long range rods, at this point we are not talking about close range rods but rods that are capable of reaching very long distances.

Now let's be honest, in our eyes the 12' Hi-S Ive has really been supplanted by the Ive ER, the ER will cast the furthest but is a much nicer rod to use and also much easier to use, the 12' Ive is a rod that not everyone can get the best out of, you need incredibly fast hand and body speed to make it work.

The 13', now that's another story, this has to be considered one of the easiest distance rods to use, it is forgiving through the top 25% of the shaft, so it means you can be a little precise about the release point of the line, it's like a golfer who has a larger "sweet spot", if you don't hit it exactly the shaft compensates for your error.

The 13' Ive doesn't require as much quickness in the hands, so it means that both the casual angler and the more experienced angler can still cast very long distances. We've had guys fishing 170-180 yards with these rods, and on one test run they've covered over 200 yards!! We've also had a lot of people say they love these rods for zig fishing. The extra length makes casting easy, and with lighter leaders at long range they don't lose fish thanks to the softer tip.
